Welcome back to another edition of our Staff Spotlight series, where we highlight the exceptional team members at Strata Health. Today, we’re excited to introduce you to Edgar Klein, Director of Technical Operations for Strata Health Canada.

📍 Works from: Calgary
🌎 Born in:  Romania
▶ Favourite food:  Love all kinds of delicious foods. Whether it’s a delicious Greek salad, creamy butter chicken, or a juicy home-made burger, I eat them all. You can say, I am on a see-food diet, I see food and I eat it.
▶ Hobbies: I do like hiking, biking and other outdoor activities, but my absolute number one hobby is rock climbing.
▶ Currently binge-watching: Game of Thrones for the fourth time.
▶ Last song listened to: Stuck in the Middle with You by Stealers Wheel from the Reservoir Dogs soundtrack.
▶ On the bucket list: To rock climb Sisyphus Summit in Canmore, it’s a 2000-foot wall of very sustained rock climbing. It’s one of the longest – if not the longest! Also, sport climb north of Mexico.

A: When I started at Strata, it was the technology that attracted me. After these many years, it is the impact we have on patients with our software and the people I daily work with that keep me at Strata.

A: Almost 14 years and counting …

A: As a Director of Technical Operations, I oversee the Dev/Ops team and work closely together with the Development, Network, QA and the Operations teams.

A: I love to work in teams and to come up with the best but still timely feasible architecture for challenging problems. Additionally, working with customers, leading difficult conversations, and being able to turn the ship around when it’s heading towards the proverbial iceberg is what I really enjoy.

A: In my field there are many technical challenges to be solved, however, with a great team none of them were unsurmountable.

A: One of my favourite successes is being responsible for the project of converting the code from Oracle to Postgres and migrating all customer environments to the new database. Of course, the technical aspects were very interesting, however, additionally being involved in clients’ meetings, and making sure to meet their expectations and deadlines was a great experience.

A: Don’t just do what you love, but instead love whatever you do.

A: Better to ask my best friend – definitely sarcastic.

A: When my son turns 16, I will be 60. Yes, I am a wise dad, hopefully.
