Howard Waldner (MBA CHE ICD.D) Appointed to Board of Directors
Howard Walder has recently retired from a distinguished career in Health Leadership spanning over 40 years. He has extensive strategic and operational experience in both Canada and the United Kingdom, having held a number of President and CEO, and other senior leadership roles on both continents.
Most recently, from 2003 to 2013, he was the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Vancouver Island Health Authority, a fully integrated regional health authority in British Columbia serving over 750,000 individuals with an annual operating budget in excess of $2B.
Prior to this, for a period of 6 years, he was EVP/COO for Alberta’s Calgary Health Region.
Howard is also an Adjunct Professor at the University of British Columbia Faculty of Medicine, and is the Principal of the Strategic Consulting firm, Caledonia Solutions Canada Inc.
Howard is an active member of the Canadian College of Health Leaders, and received his Executive MBA from Scotland’s University of Glasgow. Howard is also a member of the Canadian Institute of Corporate Directors, and has served as a director on a number of For-Profit and Notfor- Profit Boards throughout his career .
At the recent 2013 AGM of the Canadian College of Health Leaders, Howard was awarded the prestigious Canadian “Innovation Award for Healthcare Leadership”.
Howard joins the Strata Health Board as an independent Director where his knowledge of both Canadian and UK health industries, and his board governance experience will add significant value for Strata Health and its rapidly expanding international client base.
Peter Smith (BComm) Joins Strata’s Senior Management Team as VP-Technology
Peter Smith has over 20 years of Information Technology leadership spanning a broad spectrum of industries and technologies. He is a dynamic and versatile individual with a strong business acumen combined with a rich understanding of information technology.
Peter spent most of the last decade working in Senior Management positions with two Canadian Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) providers. Each of these companies emerged as global industry leaders – one in global money transfer services, and one in construction program management. Peter supported these companies to leverage their information, technology, and people to evolve into world-class companies.
Earlier in his career, Peter held positions with Calgary Laboratory Services, where he worked to establish and improve the quality of Information Technology and Project Management processes. It was during these years that Peter learned how critical data integration and information sharing is within the context of Healthcare. Known for creating high functioning and successful teams, Peter thrives on adopting a transparent and open approach toward continuous improvement.
